It may not make one a "bad person", but I would say that it certainly precludes one from the term "thoroughly decent fella".

Just wondering where you draw the line on criminal behaviour, now we know.

Genocide off the list, tax evasion (and the obvious effects that has on the poverty line) - all ok. So long as you have already paid some tax.

Out of interest, what's the tax threshold that you deem it acceptable to stop paying at?

Different people different amounts I guess.

A nobody like you or me is a different case to the 24th richest man in sport as far as numbers go.

And lets keep it in context - if MP WAS found guilty the fine is up to £180. So in fairness, based on the fact he is involved in politics in his country, it is highly likely that this is a mud slinging exercise of no real value.

Next you'll be telling me you've never been paid a single penny that hasn't been declared to the tax man.

Manchester United's last 12 league titles have all been won through favourable refereeing decisions. Fact. :0)

If found guilty, my understanding is that he could be looking-at a custodial sentence.

Yes, that's correct. I far prefer tax avoidance. Do it within the law, not outside of it.

Are you confessing then?

Where did I say I'd ever done it?

I don't care much if others do it depending on the circumstances.

I'm more concerned about tax consumers who sit there with no interest in working.

Tax avoidance/Tax evasion, aren't they morally and ethically in the same boat?

Surely a client has in the past treated you to a meal or bought you a small present that didn't find it's way on to your tax return?

Not saying that would make you a bad person, of course not, but I'm sure that nobody throughout a working life has declared absolutely everything. I don't have a problem with that really, maybe as a concerned citizen thinking of the 'greater good' I should.

Different case, Vodaphone and Barclays, legal tax avoidance on a massive scale, morally corrupt and very wrong.
FOR GOD'S SAKE!! Why can't people just accept me as the person I pretend to be!

Define small gift? And I don't think you need to declare on a self assessment if somebody buys you lunch.

Tax avoidance shouldn't be possible. If you have issue with it, take it up with the government. It's their role to stop it, not the role of businesses. I genuinely believe that, and always have.

I'm not delighted that companies do it, but I can understand their reasoning. It's legal.

It's just another example of our government being exonerated from blame, when they're the main culprits. It's why I don't like the charity Help for Heroes - not because they don't do good work, they do, but because they give the government an excuse not to offer support that should already be giving.
