Hi All,
Just thought it was worth reminding you all about this tonight.
Looking forward to it I am :-)
Thanks,
Dan |
My opinion should just be accepted as objectivity itself. |

It's just redeemed itself with the ripoff off the Sky Sports folding hands thing.
Still canned clapping though. No shame.

Loving the Darts style in which you show who plays who in the quarters.
Not so much liking the commentary from Alan Bartlett. Sounds like Roy Hodgson and probably about as clued up about pool as the newly appointed England manager.
Alan: "Ben Davies is from a snooker background."
Macca: "Uhhhhhhh, no Alan. Ben is a pool player."
Don't like the shot clock, certainly don't like the added applause and don't like the grey shirts on a grey table with a bluey grey carpet.
Don't like the lack of atmosphere (not really anyone's fault, but feel the tickets should have been offered free from the start and there would probably be more people there), don't like the windows 'error' noise for the last 5 seconds of the 30 sec countdown.
But I do like the darts style animation thingy.

Agree that Bartlett seems fairly clueless.
Andy isn't captivating either although he does know what he is talking about.
The set up looks ok to me but if you were going to flog this to a wider audience it needs much more razzmatazz and "characters". Like PL Darts does.

Manchester United's last THIRTEEN league titles have all been won through favourable refereeing decisions. Fact. :0) |

Oh no . . .
The Family Fortunes 'Uh UHHHHHH' for a time foul!
I guess if we're using the analogy that any televised pool is good exposure for the game, then fine.
If we're telling the truth and giving our honest opinions...
...I like the walk on thing. And Macca's commentary is good.

Ok, now people are going to think I'm just trying to have a dig when I promise I'm not, but Mo knows what I'm like for making sure things are done properly...
I have a screenshot of the closing titles and whoever has put this production together has given 'Thanks' to Aramith Balls twice in the same list, and haven't spelt Strachan correctly...
That's a sponsor. And that's a major faux pas.
Unforgivable, that.

Absolutely stupid, childish error to make and one that will annoy a major sponsor.
Well done to whoever is responsible for that little faux pas..

With a few tweaks it could be really good and for a first go from the new regime it wasn't that bad. The production was good but the whole concept didn't show pool in a great light as it looked a bit sterile. It needs to be more like the Eurosport one where the crowd are all rowdy and right on top of the table. The days of pool being portrayed in the same light as snooker is long gone.
I did like the foldy hands thing and the highlights of the round before plus the interviews was a nice touch.

Agree with Lils about the "greyness"; don't like it - it's like it's a dull grey sport, played on dull grey tables with dull grey players.
Don't know how empty the arena was but the sound of the balls dropping down the table seemed to echo around the arena.
As for the pool and programme itself, I enjoyed it.

I thought it was good and Mo came across well (obviously not against Phil) although the cameras add a few pounds ;-)
I liked the grey tables but thought the players should have worn more colourful shirts or even waistcoats to make it more colourful.

I watched it on the repeat at 2am. I enjoyed it. The only thing i didn't like was the constant re introduction of the competition and players after every advert break. Would have preferred more pool.

Youtube maybe? It was on Sky Sports 4, so may well be repeated or on their Sky Player (if you have Sky). Also, I believe it is being shown over the course of 7 weeks, so if you missed last night's match, just make sure you tune in next week at 7:00! |

Youtube maybe? Each episode is repeated up to 7 times, I think.

If that's the case they've certainly got a fair bit of airtime for their dollar.

An offcut of cloth spray glued into the lower box and down to the ball return would help I'm sure. It was VERY loud. |
I miss the 6 million dollar man |

Canned clapping throughout the whole thing would solve that.
