Hilton Gatwick!
But I know what you're saying... |
My opinion should just be accepted as objectivity itself. |

At the end of the day it's IPA's choice as to which venues we agree to use, and it's our responsibility to ensure that they are suitable. When Andy and Kev did a site visit it was clear to them that we couldn't fit in enough tables at the venues. So we had to change.
It's not great, but what can you do?
Credit to Andy and Kev for finding venues so quickly. As I said before shouldn't this have been checked before publishing them as venues for tours.

Yes it should creggan.
What is worse, for me anyway, is that there are a number of Welsh lads on the tour that have come on, and now their local tour event is... The Blackpool one.
I can't really comment further on the specifics of the situation, all I can do is apologise for any inconvenience caused, on behalf of the committee. As it is we who are ultimately responsible.
I'm bloody glad a site visit was done after the initial visit was made late last year, as we would have had to deal with a far worse situation had it not. Thankfully we have avoided what could have been a catastrophic occurrence. |
My opinion should just be accepted as objectivity itself. |

I agree with everything Macca and Dan have already posted on this unfortunate matter. Given the time scale at the end of last year, and the situation in which the IPA found itself, it was imperatve to kepp the tour "up and running".
It is a pointless exercise to point fingers, but at the time maybe not enough diligence was given in sourcing the venues..probably due to the time constraints placed upon us. Each venue was then earmarked for a follow up visit, complete safety assessements etc. It was during these visits that Macca and Kev found that neither Bracknell nor Newport would be able to host the events.
All of the Committee, and Hilton Hotels, made every effort to source alternatives...including non.chain hotels, conference centres, holiday parks, etc etc. We were very fortunate, and must thank Hilton Hotels, to have found a suitable venue.
Though the geography isn't ideal, as a Committee we felt that it was a better option than potentially having to change the tour dates.
Fortunately this year, and going into 2013 and the future, we have more time to prepare and are not under the same pressures as last year..so this should be a one off.
Hope to see you all in Gatwick!

At least it is sorted anyway!! A bit disappointing but main thing is the tour shouldn't suffer for it, other than some players having to travel a bit further, but will be closer for others so should balance itself out!!
Very diplomatic post I must say, hate to think about the slander on here if it had happened on the UK tour and George had made this mistake....

As much as it pains me to say it, George wouldn't make that mistake. He might have his downfalls but he knows how to run an event properly.

To a certain extent I have to agree...though with 20yrs of practise so he should. We have not yet had 20 months and were left with nothing to work with..no venues, tables, IT, balls etc etc..oh..and no cash in the bank either! All we ask is to be given a chance to show how a tour should be run for the benefit of the players and not for the promoters. |

I only played in the IPA Tour for one year, long time ago, I was informed of the date and venue of one of them and with less than two weeks to go, got told it was moved, no reason given. Think it was doubled booked?

Think it was doubled booked? A double booking is the fault of the venue not the client. Not the same as booking a venue that is not big enough.

Rosie65 probably did well out of the rearrangement though.
