Due to circumstances beyond our control, we have been forced to relocate the final Tour events of the season (Bracknell in September and Newport in October respectively) - both events will now take place at the superb Hilton Gatwick, West Sussex.
The Committee have worked tirelessly over the past three weeks or so to find a suitable venue at relative
l
y short notice exploring all the possible alternatives, and our thanks go to Martin Thornhill, the Head of Hilton Sport for his assistance in this matter.
September and October are notoriously difficult times to get the room space required for an IPA event due to the ‘conference season’, but thankfully we have found a fantastic alternative venue which we are eager to experience.
We hope that this does not cause you too much inconvenience and are confident that your IPA experience will continue to be to the highest standards, and as always we will take note of any comments you may have, positive or negative. Players will all be contacted individually but we wanted to make everyone aware as quickly as we were able

Kind Regards
The IPA Committee

Why were both the previous venues no longer available?
Manchester United's last THIRTEEN league titles have all been won through favourable refereeing decisions. Fact. :0)

also, is it definitely inclusive parking this time?
If all you have is a hammer, everything starts to look like a nail.

Where were the other 2 meant to be, not that it matters to me but West Sussex is a trek and half for some I would imagine, and not just once but twice!

On hotel site it says parking is £24.
Don't know if that is per day or per stay.

Just found this on hotel site.

"Hilton London Gatwick Airport has an agreement with the Euro Car Park, subject to availability, where we offer hotel guests a 20% discount on Euro Car Park rates."

Again can't find whether it is per day or per stay

Hmmmm, maybe the venues are not big enough to put up enough tables????

If that is the case I would have thought when MD initally arranged them with Hilton that would have been one of the first considerations.....Blushing

Cracking news though Gatwick is alot closer travelling for this country boy..Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!Flapper

The 2 cancelled venues are far from small.

I'd love to know why they were cancelled (and why it was beyond their control), to be honest.

still trying to iron out a few details such as this but we anticipate an approximate 75percent discount on parking which would then equate to around £6 per 24hrs

the previous three tours have been central or northern based. The last two were going to be Bracknell and Newport so both in the south. Although we were limited as to our options our priority was to find suitable alternatives as close to the originally proposed venues as possible.

Have you seen them then? Because they are not as far from small as you think, and unfortunatly they are not big enough

We need a minimum of 16 tables, and newport could only hold 8-10 with no viewing area and bracknell could only hold 10-12 with no sitting area or top table area.

I can assure you the last thing we wanted to do was change venues and have to find an alternative which has not been easy

The venues weren't big enough!
I suppose errors like that will happen when you have a conflict of interests.

Haha, there was no conflict at the start - just a need to get a tour up and running with 3 weeks notice. And the chairman was on holiday :D

I've stayed at the Newport one, the main function room didn't look particularly small. I thought that Hiltons had a minimum square footage for ballrooms in order to call them that.

Fancy scheduling tours at venues before finding out if they're actually big enough. It's the equivalent of LOCOG deciding that Crystal Palace National Sports Centre will host the Olympics because it's an athletic stadium so must serve the purpose.

i have no interest in pointing fingers, and you will notice the actual reason was left out of my original post.

As for the newport hotel, its not even close

You need to lighten up Macca, read who I was quoting.

Interesting. I'm staying there next weekend, I'll sneak a peek. I genuinely thought that Hiltons internal rules meant a ballroom must be at least X square feet.

Wasn't Reading suitable either ? Their largest meeting room is 4,440 square feet (60' x 74')

Or Cardiff with a ballroom that is 97' x 47'. At least as an alternative to Newport it's in the right country.

Or Swindon ........

There are obviously other venues, but they are not available. In searching for new venues we started as close as we could to the originally proposed ones and worked our way out.

Newport has the Severn Suite which is bigger than the Cardiff ballroom. If Newport wasn't big enough, Cardiff definitely isn't.
