just wondering how many leagues out there play to their own set of rules i.e. not blackball, world etc. i play in 2 local leagues with pretty much the same players/teams and they BOTH play different rules to which both are their own rules.

Also both leagues are of a decent size with approx 80 teams of 10 players. How many other leagues out there have this amount of teams and what rules do you play?

Also an individual event is run and its best of 3 all the way to the final, final being best of 5. IMO this is a bit of a joke. Usually the indies gets about 150 entries. Do other leagues out there with similar entries only play best of 3 up to the final?

Our league has 32 teams, played across 3 divisions with World Rules. I'm league secretary and would gladly incorporate a few ideas/tweaks to the ruleset, but I'm not sure they'd be supported by the rest of the committee/league. What rules do your leagues use, out of interest?

Our league singles always used to be best of 3 early rounds, 5 in semis and 9 in the final. I've tried to expand it this year, for the later rounds at least, but we've been tied to a sponsorship contract which demands certain venues are used. The venues used have never held enough tables to schedule longer matches, but we have moved hq now to a venue with more tables. Maybe we will be able to have a longer format tournament for each division. Its been something I've always been keen to have.

Our Northwich & District Pool league fluctuates between 36 and 40 teams each year over 3 divisions, our ideal number would always be 36 due to the length of the season and being able to get the Presentation Evening, a short break and then the AGM in the diary before the season starts again - but we very rarely turn any new teams away.

We play to what would be classed as old EPA rules, this suits (at the moment) the majority in our league and we have seen way too many local leagues decimated by moving to World Rules too quickly.

Our singles and doubles competitions are run by Division to encourage players to compete at "their standard", players can opt to play in a higher division singles but clearly cannot drop down, this has worked very well for the last several years attracting in most years over 64 in each event.

We also run a ladies singles and mixed doubles, we relax the rules on mixed doubles so that not both players have to be registered with the league, this is to encourage partners to join in, this had started as a bit of a fun event but has now, after 3 years, become quite a serious competition (but still with partners), we have very few contrived teams put together to try and win it.

WR Aza? And when are you going to organise another "classic"..minehead used to be the best gig around....
Differences and diversity should not be seen as sources of division and distrust, but of strength and inspiration.

Yes WR.

Minehead or the equivilant is in the planning stage I believe, they are still searching for a venue last time I checked. Butlins have become far too greedy and the very last one seemed very rushed and as a result wasn't to the same standard of years before, not saying the people running it didn't work hard etc.

As soon as R6 have it back up and running I shall let you all know.

Rugby League is 57 teams over 5 divisions playing to World Rules.

The singles and doubles events i believe are best of 7 upto the final which is best of 9, (but it may just be bbest of 7 all the way through - i only joined the league this year and havent played in the singles yet).

I know that the Watford league plays old EPA rules but have adopted the World Rules break. you also have to nominate a pocket for black (or at least you did up to 3 years ago - it may have changed since).

I play in a small town league which has 42 teams of minimum 6 players - blackball rules.

Open, divisional and ladies singles, as well as doubles and mixed doubles events. Best of 5 till quarters, then best of 9, semis best of 11 and final best of 13.

I have spoKEN!

I find it amazing that there is so much 'old' rules played.
As far as I am concerned there should not be 'old' and 'new' but simply 'The rules'

Football, and especially Rugby tweak and change the rules on a regular basis, once a change has been made that's it. Nobody decides it won't suit them and carries on playing to the old rules, or likes only one of the latest batch and just adopts that one.

The EPA don't help the division by publishing the old rules on their site.

Makes the EPA look a bit daft, in a struggle to win over BB players and there is a split within their own ranks.
It's not WR or BB, its whatever WR you play or BB.

FOR GOD'S SAKE!! Why can't people just accept me as the person I pretend to be!

coventry league play old EPA with the blacball break.

i proposed they bring the break rule change in in 2010. it got voted in at the meeting (just) and people who didnt want the change wanted to fight me. ha ha seriously.

coventry pool league once boasted 15 divisions of 12 teams but is still one of the biggest around with 6 divisions but the fact they have not moved with the times means that at interleague and county level coventry and also warwickshire will win f*** all
